Whether you “Believe it or not,” the largest rubber band ball in the world is coming to central Florida, finding a new home in Orlando at Ripley’s Believe it or Not Odditorium on International Drive. Created and grown in Lauderhill, Florida, the now 9,000 pound rubber band ball took Joel Waul almost six years to create the 6 foot 7 inch tall ball, comprise of over 300,000 variously-sized rubber bands. Joel began creating it in April of 2004 and had since continued to work on building it, collecting large donations of hundreds of pounds of rubber bands at a time from various companies.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not Orlando Odditorium is a structure that appears to be sinking into one of central Florida’s infamous sinkholes. Robert Ripley, known as the modern Marco Polo and a real-life Indiana Jones, traveled the world for more than forty years, discovering and collecting unique items of the unbelievable, inexplicable, one-of-a-kind variety to bring back to America and share. Each item and discovery is uniquely amazing and simultaneously amusing. Over 27 museums around the globe now house his collections, in 10 different countries. 90% of each collection is unique and different from the others.
