Heading south for the winter, all over Florida snowbirds can find a variety of holiday displays and lights, without the bitter cold climate they seek to escape.
In Delray Beach, a classic holiday centerpiece can be found at Old School Square in the form of a 100-foot-tall artificial tree. The lighting ceremony occurs December 3, and with 15,000 lights it’s quite the crowd pleaser. Just a few weeks later on the 12th, seventy floats parade through downtown Delray Beach along Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the holidays.
A Winter Wonderland can be enjoyed in Saint Augustine all the way into the end of January. Light displays, ice skating, a refrigerated ice slide and sleigh rides are just the start of the enjoyment.
But for those lucky enough to be spending the winter months in central Florida, Orlando has quite the treats in store for all ages. From December 5-January 1, a variety of ballons and floats from New York’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade are on display. Universal Studios features a holiday concert series including Natalie Cole, Chris Isaak, and Mannheim Steamroller. At Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing becomes Grinchmas, providing live performances of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” from December 5 through January 1.
Guests of Walt Disney World are welcome to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, a separately ticketed event held in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. This year’s special event includes “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas” stage production. While at Magic Kingdom, guests will enjoy Cinderella’s Castle as it is decorated with 200,000 sparkling crystals, which is part of Magic Kingdom’s Castle Dreamlights holiday décor.
The streets of downtown Orlando will be decorated differently than last year, and Lake Eola park welcomes citizens and guests to participate in a new tradition promoting community. Mayor Buddy Dyer announced the holiday trimming festivities would take place on December 5th, and an ice skating rink will be temporarily located in Lake Eola Park during the holidays.
