This week, Orlando celebrates its first Third Thursday of 2010. Downtown Orlando’s Third Thursday artwalks present new artworks each month, and for the year’s kickoff, there will be additional bonus exhibitions.
Occurring Thursday January 21 from 6:00-9:00 p.m., exhibitions include Orlando City Hall’s Terrace Gallery, presenting works by 25 members of the Florida Sculptors Guild. It’s not too often that Orlando sees an art show featuring sculpture works, as works are delicate and difficult to transport, and pieces for shows are challenging to set up and arrange.
A combination of emerging sculptors as well as professional and renowned sculptors from the guild are presenting pieces in a number of media, including wood, metal, ceramic, bronze, and mixed-media. These works will be on display from opening night until March 5th.
Also participating in the Third Thursday artwalk, City Arts Factory and brand new Neu America Gallery, a venue representing a number of fine artists. Andrew White will also be featured in a solo show, “Coalescence,” where the artist displays “the relationships of the figure, portrait and landscape.” With each piece featuring a number of transparent layers, the artist creates “a dialogue within the subject matter.”
Seven international artists will be featured at The Gallery at Avalon Island, with works from Japan, Iceland, Russia, Nigeria, Italy and the United States. Several venues in Thornton Park will be featuring works this Thursday as well.
